There’s not a real reason for me doing these things other than to waste time in between the ever-lengthening ship release periods. It’s also a way to gauge the public’s opinions without having to be directly involved – assuming people don’t vote more than once. Usually they go pretty much as I expected them – the one about the Romulans needing more ships, for instance. But sometimes I can’t help but be mildly perplexed by some of the results.
Like with this one …the Carolina? That ship has gotten practically zero mention since it was posted over two years ago and it turns out to be the general favorite of the bunch. The distant 2nd was the Mnemosyne, followed (also unsurprisingly) by the Tiburon with, I’m satisfied to say, the Battlestar Chrysaor in 4th as opposed to my anticipated last place. Barely creeping into 5th is the C7 – KF and I must be the only Klingon fans in this quadrant.
Aside from the rest of the Klinks getting shafted as usual there’s the Valiant, implying that just because the fans of that one are so vocal (not gonna name names but you can all guess), does not mean they speak for a majority. This brings me back to the Carolina, in the ship’s own creator’s opinion, not the most impressive of the bunch. The textures need more detail, the ship in general needs some polish, the design is far from original, and going by the hubbub when it was posted, not entirely favored by the populace. An oft repeated note being the curved pylons looking too TNG…despite the fact that particular detail is hardly exclusive to TNG and no other canon designs come anywhere close to that.
But I digress, and have to ask, when are you people going to go back to being predictable? To nitpicking the obvious design elements? To griping about excessive polygon count and oversized textures? To wax idiotic about the damned 3rd phaser bank being off-center by two pixels?! And lastly, to *not* favoring ships that are critiqued so thoroughly, or ignored so easily?
I mean, really, how am I supposed to get any work done around here when I can’t even rely on the usual string of complaints anymore? How can I build a ship, fully expecting it to crash and burn, when there’s the chance it will, in fact, fly high and be only mildly singed? At what point can I start a project and not have it be liked by *anyone*? Some frakking consistency would be preferred; it helps me not sleep at night.
For those of you without a sense of humor – no, you aren’t supposed to take any of this seriously.
